2nd Annual
Rising Star Scholarship Award & Fundraising Event
Honors Inspiring Scholars
NVCH celebrated ten exceptional Rising Star Scholars
at our May 2023 event held at Napa Valley College.
These remarkable individuals are pursuing inspiring goals in fields such as immigration law, graphic design, the FBI, nursing, physician assistant, auto technician, attorney, criminal justice, communications/public relations, and marketing/entrepreneurship. The awards were presented by our esteemed sponsors: Alison Jewett, VP Bank of the West, and Yev Taylor, VP Umpqua Bank.
The evening was filled with shining stars, including our keynote speaker, Irma Robinson, Co-Founder of Southside Café. Irma shared her own Rising Star story, beginning with her upbringing in an immigrant home filled with music, laughter, and delicious Mexican food. She attended California Sacramento State University and graduated with a degree in Business Management and Marketing. After working overseas in IT Project Management, Irma returned to Napa and worked her way up through management positions at prestigious establishments such as Domain Chandon, Darioush, and Quintessa. In 2007, Irma and her husband opened SMOKE Open Fire Cooking & Catering which has transformed into the beloved Southside Café, known for its exceptional coffee, inspired cuisine, and strong community ties.
We also acknowledged the presence of our VIPs: the Very Important Parents/People in the audience. Their unwavering love and support for their children’s education were celebrated and recognized as they continue to encourage and provide support for their children’s educational journeys beyond high school.
The evening concluded with a speech from one of our first scholars, Uriel Hernandez. Uriel, who received an NVCH scholarship in 2019, is now on the verge of completing his Nutrition/Food Science Major at California State University Chico and was an inspiration to this year’s scholars.
