WHAT IS HOME SHARING?
It’s not just sharing a home, it is sharing life!
NAPA’S HOME SHARING MATCH-UP PROGRAM
NVCH’s Home Sharing Match Up (HSMU) program, a partnership with Napa County and the City of Napa, began in 2015. The program matches qualified Home Seekers with Home Providers and is an affordable and safe solution for renters looking to rent rooms and homeowners with additional space.
NVCH promotes and encourages living arrangements in which people share a home based on preferences, common needs, and interests; each participant application is reviewed and screened.
Steps include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The program evaluates Home Seekers as Home Share candidates.
- NVCH Staff completes in-home assessments and evaluates references.
- Applicants go through a formal screening process including reference checks and criminal background checks.
- Assistance with housing agreements and completing a contract is also built into the process.
- The program offers ongoing support and mediation as desired.
Success Story
I was looking for a shared space in Napa last year and was referred to Napa Valley Home Share program. I completed the application form and still had some questions. I contacted the programs coordinator, Ms. Blanca Cervantes, and discussed my situation and needs and arranged for an in person meeting. Ms. Cervantes met with me promptly and was so helpful and thorough in explaining the program, checking over my application and documentation and addressing all my concerns. She even had a current homeowner she thought would be a great match and very quickly arranged a meeting. The entire process from application to vetting to getting a great placement couldn’t have been any smoother, or stress free. I would certainly tell anyone I knew looking for a home share situation to contact the program. If I ever need to relocate in Napa again I will certainly contact Blanca first.
